The road not taken

Hey! Seen this line before? I reckoned so.

But, this is not what you’ve thought you’ll read. This is not about the choices you’ve made acting in a herd of sheep, but about the things you could’ve done differently. Didn’t get it still?

We all face the situation, which reflects our future. Let it be the smallest of the decision; choosing between a cup of coffee or a cup of tea. It’s hard sometimes. But, not a rocket science to understand that we often choose the “safest road”, i.e. the safest option. In the mid year 2015, I faced this exact situation; choosing between marine engineering and mechanical engineering. You can see an officer in my blog which reflects my choice. How did I choose being a marine engineer over being a mechanical engineer? No list was made, but risks were calculated. Mechanical engineering was the safest option back then, but I wanted to take risks. I was willing to put in my 100% in all the risks that were coming forth. You can make a list of pros and cons if you like, but you deep down already have a choice been made in your mind. Just afraid of putting it out on the table. I get it, it’s difficult. It’s the fear of the unknown that restricts you to go further. But, the tranquility of result is to have no regrets.

We often take the road with the least risks. Ever wondered why? It’s because we are afraid of having regrets. I’m not 100% sure of my future, but one thing I’m too sure about is that at this stage of my life, I have zero regrets and 100% potentiality to face the risks.

Risks are hard, because there’s no best option.

A word “maybe” is very powerful. It’s powerful enough to put you in the dark side of this world; regrets.

-Maybe I could’ve done something differently.

-Maybe that option was a better choice.

-Maybe things could’ve ended differently if I hadn’t done that. Sure, they could have. But you chose them. Adding a word “maybe” puts you in the past, takes your present and puts in the dilemma and hence, an indentation on your future.

Maybe the alternatives are equally good? Maybe choosing coffee over tea is equally good. You can not predict the future, but the choices you make pushes you one step closer to your future.

Another key point on which we tend to diverge our path is MONEY. Yes! Based on the salary, we tend to change the path.

For example comparing the salaries of an architect and a civil engineer. Maybe the engineer isn’t getting paid at the moment, but you can’t say for sure if his salary will be greater or lesser in the latter. Which brings me to this-

Higher salary makes the other option better than previous, but doesn’t change the options and still has choices.

Remember, it’s your choice and it’s your life. Influenced or not, you make your own decisions. Stop blaming and start risking. Take a chance today! A chance that could change your tomorrow, a chance that could change your whole story.
